I know, I know. Halloween is over, so...is it Christmas yet?!? Before we jump seasons, I'd love to take a look back at all of the DIY's and festivities that took place this year. Never too early to start planning for next year, right? Plus! Everything is on sale right after Halloween. We're talkin' 50% off at Target, 75% off at Joann's. Let's. Get. Crafty.
Spooky Decor
First up, decor! Here's where the good deals come in. The bar cart is my personal favorite simply because it uses nearly every decoration we have and puts it all in one localized festive place! Besides the bar cart, my roommates and I had 18 pumpkins in just our living room, along with candy corn lights, spooky signs, and even a halloween gingerbread house!
Now that halloween is over, it's a good idea to hit the stores and grab some on sale decor that still works for fall! This includes pumpkins, leaves, and anything red or orange. In our fall bar cart, you can see that the same letter board, pumpkins, and coasters were used. These types of things go for nearly any holiday this time of year, and still keeps you from buying mountains of decor that you won't need.
To really get in the spirit, I dove head first into a big DIY project. I bought a couple glass bottles from the dollar tree with the idea of aging the heck out of them to make potion bottles for our bar cart. But, they turned out SO cute that I actually used them as a centerpiece for my living room coffee table. Although this one took longer than most DIYs, every single person that saw them LOVED them. The appreciation of such a fun and unique centerpiece was fully worth the work.
I briefly explain the process in creating these bottles on my Instagram post, but it really is up to you to decide how to decorate them. The basics consist of using sand paper to wear down the glass, and then lightly rubbing black paint over the grooves. You then decorate in any way you would like and glue a printed label right overtop.
In an effort to create another cheap DIY, I created a sparkly skull. It was only $1 from the dollar tree, and my roommate had been telling me how much she loved black sparkly skulls as halloween decor. I filled in the eyes with two red gems which really added that extra umph.
DIY Costumes
This halloween, I had three different costumes. Being in college, I usually have anywhere from 3-5 costumes per year, just because of all the events that take place. The most exciting part, I launched my first ever IGTV! In the video, I outline the way I created my DIY Flinstone costume. I wasn't able to show the creation of my other costumes, but each costume's post has a small explanation.
Trick or TREATS
Of course every great holiday has to have a few treats to go along with it! My roommates and I hosted a Halloween party this year and got pretty dang creative. We had ghost balloons hanging from the ceiling, caution tape everywhere, and lots and lots of food.
First up, we made fall puppy chow. This is a mixture of pretzels, chocolate, peanut butter, candy corn, powdered sugar, and cereal. SO good.
We also had homemade guacamole made by my best friend, Alex, with a pumpkin I carved. This was just too funny before a night out drinking.
Along with the homemade snacks, we also had sugar cookies for our guests to decorate. A $1 pumpkin cookie cutter from Walmart made this super easy. A good party always has to have an activity or two, right?!
And with that, I hope I made planning for next year's Halloween a bit easier. Don't forget to take advantage of those sales and take a look at my Pinterest page for some fall ideas I have coming up!
xoxo,
SKY
