A Beer Bottle Candle for Him

So you've looked everywhere for the perfect gift for him. Gift cards are too impersonal, flowers are too feminine. I have the perfect DIY for you: a personalized beer bottle candle. Use his favorite beer (down a couple yourself while you're at it) and fill it with his favorite scent!

I'm going to be honest, this DIY was a little tough. In fact, it was originally for my dad for Father's Day, but I couldn't do it alone (I kind of blew the surprise when I had to ask him for help with the torch). The process of cutting the bottle was the most difficult, but with my trial and error, I'll give you the best tips & tricks!

Cutting the Bottle

You will need:

  • String

  • Acetone

  • A torch

  • Bowl of ice water

  • Empty beer bottle

  • Electric sander

To make:

  1. Dip the string in acetone, being sure to fully soak it

  2. Tie the string around the bottle as tightly as possible. I tried three types of string, but twine was the only one that worked.

  3. Light the string with the torch, rotating until all of the string has been equally heated. This will take about 30 seconds.

  4. Drop the bottle with the string still around it into the ice water. The bottle head will snap off of the body immediately.

  5. Sand the rim of the bottle to get rid of any sharp edges. An electric sander works best, but rough sand paper would work as well.

*This entire process can be skipped using a glass cutter. These are available on Amazon.*

Filling the Bottle

You will need:

  • Candle

  • Small pot

  • Essential oils

  • Spoon

  • Your cut bottle

To make:

  1. Scrape the wax out of the candle. If it is not easily coming out, put the candle in the freezer first.

  2. Heat the wax in the pot, until it is entirely melted. Add any essential oils or herbs/flowers for decoration.

  3. Place the wick from the old candle into the empty beer bottle. Tape the top of the wick to a pencil laid across the top in order to keep the wick upright.

  4. Pour the melted candle into the beer bottle and let sit. You will notice the color solidify once it is cooled and firmed.

*In order to get a tall enough wick, I used one of the tall candles available at the Dollar Tree. It did not smell super great, so that's why I added the essential oils. For a great scented candle, use a nicer quality one.*

Now crack open a beer, and let's get DIYing!

xoxo,

SKY
